Introduction to Coding

Pre- or corequisite: BIO 2210 + BIO 2310 + HIT 1020 + HIT 1030. Provides an overview of Coding. Focuses on the guidelines and conventions used in coding diagnoses and procedures using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) Clinical Modifications (CM), Volumes 1, 2 and 3. Using case scenarios, students interpret medical record information, choose the required coding classification and assign and sequence codes.
