Hardware Fundamentals

A foundational course that prepares students to take an entry level PC maintenance certification exam and provides the starting point for a career in IT. Students are introduced to the basics of computer hardware, software and network technologies. Topics include the fundamentals of computer technology, installation and configuration of PCs, maintenance of PCs, mobile devices, laptops, related hardware and basic networking. The software component of the course includes the diagnosis, installation and configuration of software. Students will build a microcomputer. Common network and printer configuration software will also be introduced. In addition, students will be introduced to concepts related to the National Training Standard for Information Systems Security (INFOSEC) Professionals.
